I’ve learned a lot and had some good times writing about enterprise mobility and bring your own device (BYOD) for sites like IBM Mobile Business Insights and CNET TechRepublic. I had a front seat to the rise of enterprise mobility management (EMM) and had opportunities to meet some of the leaders in the field. Right now, I’m paying particular attention to the changing mobile security landscape.
Cloud & managed services
My current position lets me pursue my interests in the cloud and managed services in particular. Right now, I’m particularly interested in how managed services can transform public sector IT. I had opportunities to write about software as a service (SaaS) in the past but now focus more on platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) on AWS and Azure. I spent the better part of the last year building up my cloud body of work, so it rivals my enterprise mobility writing experience.
My work as a technical writer has given me a deep interest in how people and project teams collaborate. Often by day, I was working with Microsoft SharePoint or Atlassian Confluence to manage documents and other project artifacts. Too often the enterprise collaboration platforms I came across had a litany of technological, user experience, and political issues wrong with them. Then I had the opportunity to write about my observations and lessons learned for technology publications.
